How to Install WinMetro
If you are a Windows user, and want to bring the new Metro UI to your desktop, WinMetro is a free application software download for Windows that does just that. It turns your Windows XP, Vista or 7 computer into a tiled display with the same look and feel as Windows 8.
Installing WinMetro is easy: Simply double-click the program’s setup installer to start the installation process. Upon successful completion, the app will run automatically in the background.
During the initial setup, a tutorial will appear. This helps you familiarize yourself with the Metro interface and where to find everything you need.
It displays a number of tiles that resemble the ones Microsoft ships with Windows 8 by default, such as weather, calendar, news, maps and Bing search. Clicking a tile opens the respective program.
Next to each tile are shortcuts to programs that you use frequently, and clicking on these will load them directly. These shortcuts are also arranged in an orderly fashion, making it easy to find the programs you need quickly and easily.
To switch back to your traditional desktop, move the mouse cursor to the lower-left corner of the screen. Then, press the hotkey Win + X to quickly switch between the desktop and the Metro interface.
The program also has a Charms bar that pops up from the right side of your screen and contains Search, Start and Settings options. You can open it by moving the mouse to the lower-right corner of the screen, or by using a keyboard shortcut, such as Win + C.
